Does the hero always have to be involved in the Final Conflict?

One element of the Final Conflict is Letting Go. Commonly, but not necessarily, it involves the hero.

In Gentleman's Agreement (1947), the Final Conflict is amicable and between Ordinary World Romantic Challenge (Kathy) and Supernatural Aid (Dave), resulting in the union of Philip and Kathy and a Return to Perfection.
