Same Plot, Different Genre?

This is quite normal if you consider the underlying functions.

Let's take THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION. Let's say that here Andy is contained within the prison until he acquires the capacity/grows enough/lets go of limitations to escape. We can say that Red helps Andy. Imdb describes this as crime/drama.

Now let's take a version of ALADDIN'S LAMP, where Aladdin helps the genie escape from the lamp (where he's contained). The genie doesn't escape until an archetype acquires capacities, grows enough, let's go of limitations etc. Imdb describes this as animation/adventure/comedy.

You can see that the two stories have the same (or similar) underlying plots/structures, yet they are classed as completely different genres.
